About Us:
The Verification Unit (VU) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to defending Ukraine by combatting online scams. Our mission revolves around safeguarding individuals from falling victim to scams while actively pursuing and exposing those accountable for fraudulent activities. As an Investigator at the Verification Unit, you will be a crucial part of our mission to uncover and be an annoyance to those involved in cybercrimes.
Position Overview:
As an Investigator, you will play a pivotal role in our mission by conducting thorough investigations into online scams and cybercrimes. Your responsibilities will include gathering evidence, analyzing digital footprints, and uncovering the identities of scammers. You will work collaboratively with other team members to build compelling cases against fraudulent actors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Evidence Collection:
- Conduct in-depth research to gather evidence related to online scams.
- Use various online tools and techniques to trace digital footprints and gather pertinent information.
- Compile and organize evidence for case documentation and reporting.
2. Scammer Identification:
- Employ investigative skills to uncover the identities of scammers, including their real names, locations, and connections.
- Analyze digital and online profiles to build a comprehensive profile of fraudulent actors.
3. Case Documentation:
- Document investigative findings and evidence within our case management system.
- Ensure accurate and thorough reporting to support legal actions and public awareness efforts.
4. Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with other team members, including Communicators and Compliance, to streamline investigations and case processing.
- Attend team meetings and provide updates on ongoing investigations.
5. Victim Support:
- Offer support and guidance to victims of online scams, providing information on reporting procedures and resources for recovery.
6. Compliance and Reporting:
- Adhere to established guidelines and procedures for evidence handling and reporting.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on case progress and findings for use by management and publication teams.
Qualifications:
- Research and investigative skills.
- Proficiency in utilizing online tools and techniques for digital investigations.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical abilities.
- Written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Commitment to upholding privacy and confidentiality standards.
- Empathetic and compassionate approach when dealing with victims.
- Familiarity with case management systems or willingness to learn.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Additional Information:
This position is volunteer-based, and no monetary compensation is provided.
Investigators are expected to commit 7-15 hours per week to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
Training and guidance will be provided to help Investigators excel in their role.
